Grace and Duty

by

Romans 12:1-2

Main Point: On the basis of God’s mercy to us in Christ, our duty is to offer ourselves as a living sacrifice to God.

I. Christ’s Call to Discipleship – v. 1.

2 Cor. 5:14-15 For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.

II. Our Duty as His Disciples – v. 2.

John Chrysostom – “Golden Mouth” – (4th-5th century)

“And how is the body … to become a living sacrifice? Let the eye look on no evil thing, and it has become a sacrifice; let the tongue speak nothing filthy, and it has become an offering; let the hand do no lawless deed, and it has become a whole burnt offering.”

Application:

1) Are you rested in His grace?

2) Are you committed now to living primarily for His glory?

3) Vital sign: Do you hunger for His Word?
