Passion Week: Saturday, April 4, AD 33

Outwardly everything seems quiet. Jesus’ body lies in the tomb that is sealed and guarded by the Romans. The disciples rest on the Sabbath, outwardly at least. But they are hidden away in fear, grieving the loss of their beloved Master, as well as of all of their dreams of life in the kingdom with Jesus.

The Jewish leaders are relieved, thinking that the problem with Jesus of Nazareth in over. They have made arrangements with the Romans to guard the tomb so the disciples do not steal the body. It is secure. But even in their midst some grieve, like Joseph and Nicodemus. God is at work even among the leadership …

This day is called Holy Saturday. It is a time of thinking about how dark the world would be without the resurrection. Take some time to consider what your like would be like without Christ’s resurrection.
