Jesus and the Exodus

by | Jul 27, 2015 | Road to Emmaus, Sermon Archive

In this sermon we look back at Israel’s exodus from Egypt to see how it points us forward to Jesus. We examine briefly the first 9 plagues, and then we focus in on the 10th, the death of all the firstborn of Egypt. Egypt received what it deserved – justice/judgment – and Israel received what it did not deserve – grace and deliverance. Israel was delivered from bondage by the death of the firstborn, and it was protected from judgement by the Passover lamb. Jesus is both the judged firstborn and sacrifice that frees His people from their bondage in sin. Jesus is the true and greater Passover Lamb, and His salvation is the true and greater Exodus. (See “Exodus chapters 1-12” for the back story.)
